Thanks to Berkley and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this!
I was excited to read this book because fake dating and sapphic witches! The premise was intriguing, but in my opinion the execution fell a bit short.
The main character, Morgan, had some traits that frustrated me. I wasn't fond of her lack of self-esteem, which didn't seem to improve throughout the book. It was difficult to connect with Rory as well, due to a lack of character development. I believe that this also contributed to their relationship feeling rushed. I didn't have a good understanding of the characters, and I felt that they didn't seem to know each other well. There was no build up to the sudden shift from friendship to lovers. However, I did appreciate how Morgan's protective nature towards Rory and the way Rory consistently encouraged Morgan in her career.
Whilst I loved the fake dating trope, I did not enjoy the miscommunication and felt that Morgan could've handled this better. The way she suddenly treated Morgan seemed out of character for her.
With more character development and a slower relationship build-up, this could've been a captivating read. Although it didn't fully meet my expectations, I appreciate having had the opportunity to read it.
